| The Baraga County Historical Museum has a complete record of all BIRTHS, MARRIAGES, DEATHS, in Baraga County from 1875 to 1950s. These are official county records and lists all persons either born, died or married in our county since it was formed from Houghton County. For information prior to 1875, records of birth, marriages and deaths would be in the Houghton County files. The Museum also has a large photograph collection that may be copied for families searching for their roots. The Museum also has the Strieter scrapbook which was Mrs. Strieter’s collection of photographs and newspaper clippings of all babies born in her birthing home. This book unfortunately has been badly vandalized and is not available to the general public for review, however, Museum volunteers will search it for you. The Baraga County Historical Museum charges $10.00 per hour to search courthouse records, internal museum records, MTU Archives, Census reports for Baraga County, the Mormon Library for records, as well as old L’Anse Sentinels which has been the Baraga County weekly newspaper for over 100 years. The start up fee is $15.00 for the first hour and $10.00 for each additional hour spent. The museum will open a search upon receipt of $25.00, the start up hour and one additional hour. If our search is one hour or less, you will be refunded the second hour ($10.00). If we expend more than two hours and are unsuccessful in finding any materials for you, we will not bill you for the additional time spent. If we are required to spend more than two hours and are successful, we will submit the additional charge with our report. Please send us as much information as you have about the person(s) or family you want us to research to the: Be sure to include your return mailing address and also your telephone number. If you have an email address, please include it with your request as it would be helpful for quick corespondences. The Museum is also obtaining some family histories. Those that are in our files are copied for .25 cents per page. If you are interested in learning if your family is available please contact the museum. The museum is always eager to receive copies of your family tree as it is being completed or is completed. You may send a copy to the Baraga County Historical Museum at the address above. |
